| Redwood SWCD has been fortunate to have a voice in
legislative activities relating to conservation districts through its
supervisors and administrator. In the 1900s, Minnesota soil and water districts began making themselves known to legislators by making visits to the capitol and lobbying for continued support. Redwood SWCD representatives recognize the importance of these contacts and make regular visits to the capitol. District Administrator, Marilyn Bernhardson, has been active with the legislative activities and serves as the chair of the Minnesota Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts (MASWCD) Legislative Committee. The legislative efforts have paid off as amounts levied to districts and their programs have shown marked increases over the years since they began. Even with state budget woes in recent years, the soil and water districts have fared well. Legislators now recognize the districts presence and have become familiar with their cause. |
